Thank you to Scott Heibult for suggesting we visit FBT Sawmills in Steen. Mitch was excited to have us visit and tell us about his business. FBT Sawmills was started by Mitch's father 22 years ago, a hobby that turned into a business. In 2008, the business was destroyed by a fire but Mitch and his dad made a comeback. Many of us had never been to a sawmill so it was very interesting. There are about 10,000 pieces of wood on their property and it takes anywhere from 2 weeks-90 days to dry a piece of wood. Customers may have FBT cut wood for them, as seen in the video, or FBT will create tables, mantels, and benches for customers. There is very little waste of the tree as even the dust is used for bedding for horses, except Walnut dust which is deadly to some horses. FBT Sawmills has customers in Omaha, Rapid City, and even Arizona. Thank you Mitch for sharing your business with SWMN CEO!
