This morning we learned about charitable giving and the role of a community foundation from Luverne Area Community Foundation executive director Emily Crabtree. Emily spoke about non-profit business, stake holders vs. share holders, grants, bequest, and had a great activity for the young professionals on spending, saving and giving of money. The LACF started out as a health foundation in 1984 and transitioned to a community foundation in 2007. Foundations are meant to strengthen and enhance communities while being the vehicle to direct charitable giving. The young professionals learned about the "warm glow" effect that giving helps you feel better and makes people happy. 1/4-1/2 of charitable giving happens in the months of October-December. Emily spoke about being confidential, being a good steward, and being grateful. The young professionals wrote a "power" thank you to an individual who they feel make a difference in their life. Thank you to Emily for the great morning with SWMN CEO!
