The sun was shining bright as we visited Merch & Co. in Edgerton this week. With a business moving out of town this gave Sheila Gunnick and Nancy Fischer an opportunity to grow their business. The ladies met through a passion of art and creating items out of repurposed materials. They needed a space to sell their products and opened up a space for 35 other area vendors to showcase their creations. Sheila has an art background and Nancy's background is in animal in dairy science so neither imagined themselves as business owners. The owners enjoy offering art classes which attracts an array of customers from the area. They talked to the young professionals about being active in their communities, failures will help you move forward, commission and booth rent, the freedom of owning your own business, and branding yourself.
