It was rainy this morning but that didn't stop us from visiting Whitetail Farms near Garretson. Greg Leenderts had started his freshman year of college when his uncle was hurt. Greg decided to come home and help his uncle farm and never looked back. He started with crops and cattle and along the way had a custom silage business, baling and manure business before choosing to raise deer. Greg has always enjoyed hunting and the outdoors which lead him to try this niche business starting in 2015-16. Greg, along with his wife Laura and two sons Blake (CEO alumni) and Hunter i(n the present class), have worked hard to build this family business. Greg spoke to the young professionals about genetics and artificial insemination, the breeding window of about 58 hours, whitetail deer vs. mule deer, the process of raising the deer, vaccinating deer and having blood test every three years by the state. Transportation can be difficult as the deer are a high adrenaline ,anxiety, and nervous animal. Greg has an air conditioned trailer that comfortably transport the deer to the Black Hills, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Oklahoma which has allowed him to custom haul for other farms. Spending time with animals is always a great way to start the day. Thank you Greg and Laura for hosting SWMN CEO on your farm. You can follow on Facebook at Whitetail Farms.
