When young professionals meet a young business owner!
Tyson Cowell always knew he wanted to own a business, so when a family friend approached him about purchasing a restaurant hood cleaning company, he seized the opportunity and made it his own.
Hood cleaning is no easy job—it’s dirty work that typically has to be done overnight when businesses are closed. Tri-State Hood Cleaning services restaurants, as well as schools, nursing homes, and convenience stores. Tyson took a chance early on by cold-calling a chain convenience store and successfully secured a contract to clean all of their locations across a large region. Today, he has grown the business to serve around 210 clients.
When it came time to hire, Tyson reached out to Gavin Reisch, a SWMN CEO Class of 2023 alum who had been working on the road as a lineman. Tyson and Gavin quickly discovered they work well together, sharing a strong work ethic and a commitment to delivering excellent results for their clients. Each job begins with a detailed inspection report, including before-and-after photos, and ends with ensuring the job site is spotless.
While many of their clients are local, they often travel 2–3 hours for jobs. They’ve also connected with a business owner in Alabama, giving them the opportunity to compare business models and exchange ideas.
It was a great morning hearing from these driven entrepreneurs and learning about the grit, risk-taking, and dedication it takes to build a successful business.
