What a great way to wrap up the year this morning with Sara Schmuck! Sara’s presentation, “Careers are a Journey,” gave the young professionals practical advice they can carry with them into future careers and opportunities.

Sara began by sharing her own career path in journalism and marketing before transitioning to Sanford Health. She encouraged the group to view careers as evolving journeys rather than fixed destinations.

Her presentation covered a variety of professional development topics including interview preparation, filling out applications, cover letters, resumes, and personal branding. One statistic she shared that stood out to the group was that women often apply only for jobs they feel 100% qualified for, while men will apply when they meet around 60% of the qualifications.

Sara also provided practical interview tips, including the “water sip technique,” how to create thoughtful and well-rounded questions, strategies for answering situational interview questions, and guidance on appropriate dress and dining etiquette. It was a valuable and informative morning filled with advice the young professionals can immediately put into practice.
