When Brant and Jen Huisman discovered their interests aligned, the result was The Painter’s Wife, a unique shop in Ellsworth. Brant, owner of Fischnich Painting, had fond memories of Ellsworth’s hardware store and jumped at the opportunity to purchase the building when it became available. Jen, who holds degrees in graphic arts and art, had been dreaming of opening a pop-up shop in a space on their acreage. When their ideas came together, The Painter’s Wife storefront was born.
Brant and Jen share a love of antiquing, with Missouri being their favorite state for treasure hunting. They have also traveled to Wisconsin, Alabama, and Florida in search of unique finds. Brant is especially drawn to large oil and gasoline signs, while Jen enjoys discovering vintage glassware and décor that reflect the charm of years gone by.
During her presentation to the Young Professionals, Jen introduced the concept of a “Collected Life,” explaining how the items people purchase, collect, and keep can tell the story of their lives. She brought this idea to life through a small-group activity that challenged participants to shop in the store while taking on the perspective of a particular type of shopper.
Jen also shared the importance of community involvement and social media in promoting a business. She enjoys refreshing the store’s displays to create a new shopping experience and give customers fresh inspiration with each visit.
Thank you to Jen for sharing her entrepreneurial journey, creativity, and passion for business with the Young Professionals! Follow The Painter’s Wife on Facebook to stay up to date on sales, special events, and new finds.
