The Smidt family has owned the corner property at Highway 30 and 8th Avenue SW for five generations. What began as a gas station has been home to Dar’s Pizza for the past 50 years. Jeremy and Maritta Smidt are the third-generation owners of the business.
Maritta manages the day-to-day operations of Dar’s Pizza while also working as a nurse. Dar’s Pizza is well known for its fresh ingredients, homemade-style sauce, and dough made from scratch.
During the visit, Maritta shared valuable insight with the SWMN CEO young professionals about hiring great employees, providing excellent customer service, managing the multiple licenses required to operate a business, and navigating rising input costs. She also gave the group a behind-the-scenes look at how each pizza is made fresh to order.
